Curriculum

At Victoria School we have designed our broad and balanced curriculum with pupils’ learning at its heart. We deliver a curriculum that aims to unleash the aspirations and potential of all.

We aim to ensure that all pupils achieve the highest academic standards, whilst providing a curriculum that offers the opportunity to gain confidence, reflect on progress whilst creating the resilience of personal challenge “to be the best that they can be”. We recognise that pupils should be challenged in their learning as they learn from failures and celebrate successes. We intend for our curriculum to be empowering, enabling pupils to develop their interpersonal skills, creativity and independence.

Learning how to Learn. Building Learning Power.

Building Learning Power (BLP) is at the core of our curriculum, helping our pupils to become better learners. BLP allows teachers to give pupils the skills and attitudes to tackle challenging learning, by creating a climate that fosters good learning habits.

At Victoria School pupils from 2-11 are provided with well-planned learning opportunities that include links to develop four overriding learning behaviours known as learning muscles and which support our pupils as they move towards becoming better learners.

Classroom-based learning: At Victoria School we follow the National Curriculum. The core of our curriculum is to ensure that all pupils achieve secure age appropriate skills in English and Mathematics. Teachers follow specific programs to ensure consistency and monitor progress in all core and foundation subjects.

The intent, implementation and impact of all subjects taught are detailed in individual subject specific documents in our curriculum section of our website.

Inclusion

Victoria School offers a wide range of specific intervention programs delivered to all pupils who may require intervention during the school year. These are carried out in one-to-one or small group teaching sessions for pupils who require additional support and are offered to pupils who have EHCP’s or have been identified as having additional learning needs.

Extra-curricular activities: We provide a variety of extra-curricular activities for pupils that enhance their learning experience. The activities range from after-school clubs, to educational trips and visits – a list of the extra-curricular activities available for each year group is sent to parents at the beginning of each term. Extra-curricular activities are designed to enhance pupils’ learning experience, form personal connections between pupils and their peers, and teach skills essential for life after school.
